Lukman Blasts Weak Opposition Strategy Ahead of 2027
Former All Progressives Congress (APC) Vice Chairman Salihu Lukman has voiced his frustration with the opposition’s current game plan, warning that without a decisive shift the party risks repeating the shortcomings seen in the 2023 elections.
Lukman made it clear that, while he personally hopes to see President Bola Tinubu and the APC defeated in 2027, the present trajectory of the opposition leaves him dissatisfied.
He stressed that the opposition must first resolve the personal ambitions of its leaders and place the nation’s destiny above individual interests. According to Lukman, the original goals of the coalition — uniting opposition figures and creating a party capable of holding elected officials accountable — have been side‑lined.
“Look, as a person, I don’t have any restraint. I want APC and President Tinubu defeated out of government in 2027. But the way we are going about it, I’m frustrated,” Lukman said.
He added that, regardless of any judicial outcomes, the opposition appears poised to fall back into the same patterns that characterised the 2023 polls, expecting a miracle without addressing the underlying strategic flaws.
The former APC official urged opposition leaders to renew their commitment to building a cohesive, accountable alternative capable of challenging the ruling party effectively in the upcoming electoral cycle.
