FIFA called for "peace" in Gaza on October 2, 2025, but "it cannot resolve geopolitical problems," according to its president, Gianni Infantino, who refrained from responding to growing calls to suspend the Israeli FA. Referring to "the ongoing situation in Gaza" at the opening of the closed-door meeting of the body's council, the Italian-Swiss leader said that "the power of football" was to "unite people in a divided world," offering "a message of peace and unity." FIFA Withdraws Forward Enterprise Initiative

The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has decided to halt its proposed Forward Enterprise project after a broad consultation process showed the plan had become a source of division rather than unity.

Originally introduced to strengthen member associations and accelerate football development—especially in nations needing greater financial and institutional support—the initiative was always framed as contingent on widespread backing from stakeholders.

FIFA’s statement noted that the project was meant to provide a foundation for further strengthening the sport worldwide, particularly in regions where assistance is most critical.

From the outset, the proposal was subject to an extensive consultation involving the FIFA Council, the six continental confederations, and other football bodies. FIFA reiterated that it would only move forward if a majority of member associations supported the plan.

Feedback gathered during those discussions, however, indicated that the initiative had generated considerable disagreement across the global football community. FIFA concluded that, regardless of any level of support, the resulting divisions were no longer aligned with its original objective.

“Our purpose has always been—and will always be—to unite and improve,” the governing body stated, confirming that the Forward Enterprise proposal would not proceed.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino added that the organization will now focus on rebuilding consensus among its stakeholders while continuing efforts to expand football development worldwide, especially in countries that need the most support.
