Ekiti APC Welcomes Supreme Court Verdict on Oyebanji’s Candidacy
The All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State has welcomed the Supreme Court judgment that affirms Governor Biodun Oyebanji as the party’s legitimate candidate for the June 20 governorship election.
The party described the ruling as a triumph for internal democracy, the rule of law, and the collective decision of Ekiti APC members.
It urged members and stakeholders to unite behind the governor and support his administration’s efforts to improve citizens’ lives.
The position was communicated in a statement issued on Friday by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Segun Dipe.
The APC called on its members to view the judgment as a call for greater unity and to back the governor as he continues to implement his shared‑prosperity agenda.
The legal journey began at the High Court, proceeded to the Court of Appeal, and finally reached the Supreme Court after Olawunmi appealed the earlier decisions.
In a unanimous judgment delivered on Friday, the apex court dismissed Olawunmi’s appeal and upheld the Court of Appeal’s ruling that Oyebanji’s candidacy is valid.
The Ekiti APC said the verdict puts an end to the legal controversy surrounding the governor’s candidacy and reinforces the legitimacy of the landslide mandate given to him by Ekiti voters on June 20.
The party congratulated Oyebanji on the judicial confirmation of his candidacy and praised his humility and magnanimity throughout the litigation.
Despite winning the primaries, the election with a landslide, and now the Supreme Court affirmation, Oyebanji has remained focused, peaceful, and inclusive, according to the party.
The APC noted that the governor refused to let the legal battle distract him from governance, choosing development over bitterness and inclusiveness over exclusion.
The statement added that power has not changed him, victory has not made him arrogant, and litigation has not made him vindictive — reasons Ekiti people continue to trust him.
The party called on its members and supporters to move past the legal dispute and concentrate on working together for Ekiti’s development.
It also thanked the judiciary for upholding justice and democratic principles, and expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu and the party’s National Working Committee for their support throughout the process.
The APC urged all stakeholders to rally behind Oyebanji as he pursues his administration’s agenda for shared prosperity in the state.
