Donald Duke Says Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway Won’t Go Beyond Epe
The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) presidential candidate, Donald Duke, described the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as an unnecessary project, arguing that Nigeria cannot afford such a massive infrastructure venture.
He said the road is unlikely to extend past Epe and questioned its purpose, noting that during a drive he observed mostly land reclamation activities.
Duke pointed out that a functional road already exists between Lagos and Calabar, and if it is in poor condition, the government should simply repair it rather than build a new route.
He urged authorities to redirect funds toward critical sectors such as electricity supply and healthcare, highlighting the dire state of public services.
Citing figures, he mentioned that last year’s health capital budget amounted to a mere 36 million naira, which he described as pathetic for a nation of over 230 million people.
He also lamented the chronic underfunding of the education system, insisting that scarce resources should be spent on essential services instead of grandiose road projects.
