Media personality and activist DJ Switch has criticised First Lady Oluremi Tinubu after she urged Nigerians to consider small‑scale ventures such as selling akara, roasting corn and producing kuli‑kuli.
In a recent video address, the First Lady explained that the administration is providing hope through grants and social programmes, pointing out that launching akara or kuli‑kuli enterprises needs minimal capital.
She added that the government has also funded humanitarian initiatives, including tuberculosis treatment, breast‑cancer assistance and programmes to alleviate food malnutrition.
First Lady outlines her social‑intervention efforts
Oluremi Tinubu noted that her office continues to award scholarships, provide ICT training and run other support schemes aimed at improving Nigerians’ livelihoods.
“We have encouraged Nigerians as best we can. Whatever lies within our power, I have given and I keep giving,” she remarked.
She also urged citizens not to lose faith, emphasizing that President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda seeks to inspire optimism across the nation.
“We must renew our hope, and that is how we renew it. We are a proud nation,” she added.
DJ Switch fires back
Reacting to the remarks, DJ Switch took to social media to voice her frustration, arguing that authorities should prioritize creating opportunities and infrastructure that equip citizens for a fast‑changing technological landscape.
“With absolutely no due respect, Remi! Thunder fire you! While other nations are building spaces and infrastructure to develop their people for this rapidly advancing tech world, you want us to sell kuli kuli?” she wrote.
The activist further condemned those defending the First Lady’s stance, saying, “I cannot express how much I despise you people.”
