A Nigerian woman has become widely talked about online after sharing how her seamstress repeatedly cautioned her against marrying her fiancé, advice she initially brushed off until a startling event altered her perspective.
She explained that during the fitting for her traditional wedding attire, the seamstress paused and inquired whether she was truly certain about marrying the man.
Recalling the moment, she quoted the seamstress: “Are you sure you want to go through with this marriage?” and she replied, telling the seamstress to focus on her sewing and not meddle in matters that were none of her business.
The same question resurfaced at the first fitting session.
Though she brushed it off then, she later observed controlling tendencies from her partner, such as his demand that she deposit her savings into his account, which she overlooked while preoccupied with wedding preparations.
The turning point arrived when her fiancé allegedly struck her for attending her cousin’s introduction ceremony without first seeking his approval.
She said, “That was when everything clicked. I called off the wedding and later asked the seamstress how she had sensed the danger. She explained that she noticed his domineering nature and could see fear in my eyes from the very beginning,” she added.
The disclosure has ignited reactions across social platforms, with numerous users applauding the seamstress for speaking up, suggesting her persistence may have spared the woman from an unhappy union.
Looking back, the woman expressed no regret, stating that ending an engagement is preferable to enduring a broken marriage.
