Former senator Dino Melaye, representing Kogi West, has advised President Bola Tinubu not to treat the forthcoming 2027 presidential election as a foregone conclusion. He stressed that political endorsements, no matter how widespread, cannot override a higher authority.
Reference to Sani Abacha’s Unfulfilled Ambition
In a post on his 𝕏 handle on Wednesday, Melaye drew a parallel with the late military Head of State, General Sani Abacha. He noted that Abacha enjoyed unanimous backing from all five registered political parties before his sudden death in 1998, yet his plan to transition from military rule to a civilian presidency never came to pass.
The “God Factor” in Political Affairs
Melaye asserted that a “God factor” always influences human affairs, warning that no political calculation can supersede divine intervention. He urged Tinubu to acknowledge this reality as campaign activities for the 2027 general election intensify.
Abacha’s Endorsement and Sudden Halt
The former lawmaker recalled that every political party at the time had adopted Abacha as their preferred presidential candidate. He described the late leader as already cruising toward a civilian presidency when, according to Melaye, “God picked His phone and called Abacha.”
Divine Call Has No Network Failure
Melaye concluded with a striking metaphor: “When God calls you, there is no network failure. That God has not gone on omugwo, Tinubu watch it.” He used the Igbo term “omugwo” (post‑natal care) to emphasize that the divine summons remains active and unavoidable.
