Dele Momodu Sounds Alarm on Nigeria’s Insecurity and Hardship
Media entrepreneur and politician Dele Momodu has warned that millions of Nigerians are struggling to survive as economic conditions worsen.
He said he has never witnessed such a severe level of hardship in the country before, citing the rising cost of living, deepening poverty and persistent security challenges.
“I have never seen Nigerians suffer at this level. The insecurity and economic hardship across the nation are unprecedented,” he stated.
Momodu added that insecurity and hardship have never been this bad in Nigeria’s history and urged the government to take decisive steps to restore public confidence.
He called on authorities to address both economic and security challenges, emphasizing that Nigerians deserve relief from the current suffering.
In the same interview, Momodu claimed that former President Muhammadu Buhari did not initially support Bola Tinubu’s presidential ambition during the build‑up to the 2023 election.
According to Momodu, Buhari and several senior officials in his administration were opposed to Tinubu’s candidacy, a stance he said later contributed to the difficulties faced by Central Bank of Nigeria Governor Godwin Emefiele.
The ADC chieftain noted that Emefiele, Buhari and former Attorney General of the Federation Abubakar Malami were part of the same political group that did not back Tinubu’s bid, creating tension within the government as the election approached.
Despite the alleged opposition, Tinubu secured victory and became president. Momodu described Tinubu’s emergence as a destiny‑driven outcome, but added his personal view that the president has not made the best use of the opportunity entrusted to him.
“In the last election, my information is that Buhari did not initially want Tinubu at all. That’s what led Emefiele into the crisis he found himself in because he, Buhari and the Attorney General (Malami), who is also facing a crisis now, were in the same clique that didn’t want Tinubu, but somehow Tinubu is a child of destiny, I believe, whether positive or negative, I don’t know, because he has mismanaged that opportunity given to him by God,” Momodu said.
