Afrobeats star David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has urged residents of Osun State to reject violence and intimidation as the forthcoming governorship election approaches.
Speaking in his role as head of the youth mobilisation team campaigning for the re‑election of his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, Davido addressed supporters with a heartfelt message.
He acknowledged the heightened tension surrounding the poll but called on voters and political backers to remain calm.
“I speak to you today not just as Davido, but as one of your own, as a voice for our people,” he said. “I understand the tension and emotions surrounding this election, but I urge everyone to remain calm. We have been calm for a long time; we have won this contest twice before, and by the grace of God we will win it again for a third time. Let us reject violence.”
Davido described Governor Adeleke as “one of the best, if not the best” governors Osun State has ever produced, pointing to the administration’s completed projects and achievements as evidence of its merit for re‑election.
Without naming any individual, the singer referenced rumours of possible external interference in the Osun election. He stressed that he was not presenting those claims as verified facts, but appealed to the unnamed figure to use his influence to promote peace and allow Osun residents to choose their candidates freely.
He added that his appeal carries extra sincerity because of his family’s ties to Imo State through his wife, Chioma, who hails from there.
“Please, let Osun remain peaceful,” Davido pleaded.
The artist also urged all candidates and political parties to honour the democratic process, warning that political ambition must never endanger lives or destabilise the state.
“Whatever the outcome is, please do not allow political ambition to put the lives and future of the Osun people at risk,” he said. “Let the people come out freely and peacefully to vote for the candidate of their choice. If they choose you, let the victory be through their votes; if they choose someone else, let their decision be respected.”
He reminded listeners that politics is temporary, while the well‑being of Osun State and its citizens endures. “No political victory is worth violence, destruction, or the loss of a single life,” Davido asserted.
Finally, he encouraged eligible voters, especially young people, to participate fully in the election without fear, urging them to shun provocation, intimidation, and destruction while peacefully defending their democratic rights.
“Your vote is your voice, and your choice must be respected,” he concluded.
Davido also highlighted that Governor Adeleke had fulfilled his campaign promises and delivered tangible projects across the state, reinforcing the call for continuity.
