Arsenal’s £55m Bid for Bruno Guimarães Turned Down by Newcastle
Arsenal have reportedly stepped up their pursuit of Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimarães, submitting a formal £55 million offer that was promptly rejected by the Magpies.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano disclosed on Thursday that the Gunners made the approach within the last 24 hours as manager Mikel Arteta looks to strengthen his midfield ahead of the new season.
According to Romano, Arsenal opened negotiations with a £55 million bid, but Newcastle immediately turned it down.
The club has made clear they are not prepared to part ways with one of their most influential players for the amount offered by Arsenal.
Guimarães, who has two years remaining on his current contract at St James’ Park, remains a key figure in Eddie Howe’s squad, with Newcastle determined to retain his services.
The Brazilian midfielder has also attracted attention for his impressive performances for Brazil at the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup.
Although Arsenal are keen to secure his signature, Newcastle’s firm stance means any potential transfer would likely require a significantly improved offer.
