APC Holds Primaries to Choose 2027 Presidential Candidate
Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will vote on Saturday, 23 May 2026 in the party’s primary election to select its presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.
APC Membership Surges
APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda announced that the party’s membership has grown to nearly 14 million, with over 13 million registered members. He noted that about half of the members are aged between 18 and 35, making the APC the most youthful party in Nigeria.
Presidential Aspirants
The ruling party’s ticket for 2027 is contested by only two aspirants: President Bola Tinubu and Osifo Stanley.
Kwara Governorship Primary Outcome
In Kwara State, the APC governorship primary produced a clear winner. Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Saliu Danladi, defeated the governor’s earlier choice, Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki, and other contenders.
The primary, initially set for Thursday, was moved to Friday due to logistical reasons. Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq had withdrawn his support for Ambassador Seriki and endorsed Danladi as his preferred successor.
Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, chairman of the primary election committee, declared Danladi the victor with 94,990 votes. Seriki received 41,700 votes, while Dr Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa garnered 22,118 votes.
