Rotimi Amaechi Declares Himself ADC’s Most Qualified Presidential Aspirant for 2027
Former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi has proclaimed himself the most qualified and electable presidential aspirant in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Arise Television on Friday, Amaechi outlined why he believes he should lead the ADC ticket, emphasizing his extensive leadership record.
He noted that he has chaired both the Governors’ Forum and the Speakers’ Forum, positions none of his rivals — including former Vice‑President Atiku Abubakar and former Northern Nigeria Development Company boss Mohammed Hayatu‑Deen — have held.
Amaechi stated, “I’m the most experienced of them all. I’m the youngest but most experienced. I have been chairman of the Governors’ Forum. None of them, including President Bola Tinubu, has been chairman of the Governors’ Forum because he was once a governor.”
He also highlighted his tenure as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly and his role in establishing the Speakers’ Conference office in Abuja, which he ran for two terms.
Amaechi pointed out that he became the first person to serve two terms as chairman of the Governors’ Forum, recalling a controversial call from then‑President Tinubu who accused him of turning the forum into a labour union.
“I said, no, sir, I’m just a public relations officer because your governor is a member. So it’s what the governors decided that I just announced,” he added.
With the ADC presidential race also featuring Atiku Abubakar and Mohammed Hayatu‑Deen, Amaechi’s declaration sets the stage for a competitive contest as parties prepare for the 2027 elections.
