APC Gombe Denies Tinubu Backed Pantami’s Defection to PDP
The Gombe State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed claims that former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy Ali Pantami secured President Bola Tinubu’s approval before defecting to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The dispute arose after Pantami emerged as the PDP’s governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections, following the APC primary that produced Jamilu Gwamna as its nominee.
While the Gombe PDP insists Pantami validly resigned from the APC and is now a bona fide opposition member, the APC maintains he remains a party member.
Speaking to journalists in Gombe on Tuesday, APC Publicity Secretary Moses Kyari rejected statements allegedly made by Pantami during a TVC interview that his defection and governorship ambition had Tinubu’s blessing.
“We categorically reject this assertion. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a committed leader of the APC and has consistently demonstrated loyalty to the party. It is difficult to believe that the President would endorse activities contrary to the interests and unity of the APC,” Kyari said.
He urged the national APC leadership and the Presidency to publicly clarify the issue to prevent misinformation.
“We therefore call on the national leadership of the APC and the Presidency to publicly clarify and dispel these claims in order to prevent misinformation and avoid misleading the people,” Kyari added.
