APC Criticizes Governor Otti for Naming Umuahia Bus Terminal After INEC Officer Nnenna Oti
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has publicly denounced Governor Alex Otti’s decision to name the Umuahia Central Bus Terminal after Professor Nnenna Oti, the INEC officer who supervised the 2023 elections in the state.
In a statement released on Thursday, the party described the move as dangerous, warning that it could set an unhealthy precedent for future electoral officials assigned to Abia ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Signed by the APC’s Publicity Secretary, Uche Aguoru, the statement argued that the governor should have honoured distinguished Abia indigenes rather than an electoral administrator.
The party questioned, “When did favourable electoral outcomes start attracting rewards and state‑sponsored recognition?” and declared that it wholly rejects and condemns the naming of the terminal—or any public monument—after Professor Oti.
APC labelled the honour as “undeserved, provocative, divisive and embarrassing” to the people of Abia State, insisting that it wrongly immortalises an election officer instead of recognising the state’s proven builders.
The statement concluded with a call for Governor Otti to reconsider and reverse the decision to name the bus terminal after Professor Nnenna Oti.
