APC Chieftain Defects to PDP in Ogun
Former All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain and Egba Agenda Forum chairman, High Chief Mustapha Abdulhakeem Owolabi, has announced his defection to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Egba Marginalisation Concerns
Speaking to delegates and supporters, Owolabi claimed that the Egba people have been sidelined in Ogun State’s governance for over seven years and warned against efforts to keep them out of leadership for another 16 years.
Endorsement of PDP Candidates
He endorsed the PDP’s gubernatorial ticket, comprising Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu and his running mate, Alhaja Dr Lateefat Sowunmi‑Kolapo, describing the move as a step toward political inclusion and equitable representation for the Egba.
PDP Candidate’s Pledge
Adebutu promised a transparent and accountable administration, stressing local government autonomy, grassroots development and economic growth. He also challenged the APC ticket to a public debate and highlighted his private‑sector donations of transformers to communities across the state.
Calls for Unity
PDP senatorial candidate Iyabo Obasanjo urged Egba indigenes to unite politically, reject attempts to diminish their influence, and vote for inclusive governance.
The defection and endorsement signal a significant shift in Ogun’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
