Anih Releases Video Evidence to Counter Impersonation Claims
Johnpaul Anih, chairman of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Enugu State chapter, has rejected accusations of impersonation leveled by certain party leaders.
Those leaders alleged that Anih was pretending to be the recognised Enugu State chairman, Engr Ibuchukwu Obeta.
In a statement issued on Monday, Anih dismissed the claim as laughable.
He accused the accusers of being political opportunists seeking to seize control of the party through intimidation, propaganda, and backdoor deals.
Anih expressed shock that individuals who previously worked closely with him now deny his role, allegedly influenced by financial inducements, despite his role in building the party’s structure in the state.
He emphasized that the only legitimate congresses for the NDC Enugu chapter were properly conducted, culminating in the State Congress held at Aborigen Hall and Premises, Enugu, with media, security agencies, and electoral officials present.
That congress elected him as Chairman of the NDC in Enugu State, despite a brutal attack by thugs allegedly sponsored by the same individuals attempting to hijack the party by force, which ultimately failed.
Anih stated that video evidence exists documenting the authentic congress that produced him and his executive members, as overseen by the Congress Committee appointed by the party’s national leadership.
Consequently, the National Publicity Secretary of the party has contradicted verified facts regarding the Enugu State leadership structure.
He noted that on 6 May 2026, certain individuals from the party’s national secretariat wrote to INEC requesting approval to hold ward, local government, and state congresses on 16‑18 May 2026.
Although INEC acknowledged receipt of the letter on 8 May, the information was concealed until 14 May — six days later — when the planned illegality and attempted coup were halted by a court order on 15 May.
Anih concluded that no legitimate congress took place anywhere in the state, as the illegitimate effort, organised after party members had already rejected it, was effectively stopped by the court intervention.
