Amaechi Rebuts Tinubu’s Claim on Buhari’s 2015 Victory
Presidential aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rotimi Amaechi, has dismissed President Bola Tinubu’s assertion that he was responsible for Muhammadu Buhari’s emergence as president in 2015.
Speaking on Arise TV on Monday night, Amaechi said that responding to Tinubu’s statement at the time would have been “suicidal” because he was still a serving minister in Buhari’s cabinet and feared being sacked.
Amaechi insisted that he, not Tinubu, directed the campaign that secured Buhari’s victory, noting his role as Director General of the 2014 Buhari presidential campaign.
“When I was a minister, Tinubu was claiming he made Buhari president, and I couldn’t respond because that was suicidal. Buhari could have fired me because I was still serving as a minister,” Amaechi stated.
He added, “Tinubu didn’t make Buhari president. Not only that, I was the DG of the campaign; everyone knows I did all the work, not Tinubu.”
