Labour Party Waives Screening for Abia Governor Alex Otti
The Labour Party (LP) has announced that Abia State Governor Alex Otti will not undergo the usual governorship screening exercise as he seeks a second term in office.
Senator Nenadi Usman, the party’s national chairman and head of the screening committee, disclosed the decision during a press briefing on the outcome of the aspirants’ screening.
Usman explained that the party had already purchased nomination forms for Otti and granted him a waiver from the screening process, noting that his status as a party leader and major representative made it inappropriate to ask him to pay for the forms.
She remarked, “Is it possible for the leader of the House to come for screening, just as it is done in other parties? In the party that he nurtures?”
The LP chairman added that the waiver and the free forms were presented to Otti in a small ceremony, emphasizing that the gesture recognizes his performance in office and his role in promoting the party’s principles of equal opportunities and social justice.
Usman praised Otti for upholding the Labour Party’s ideals while administering Abia State, and said the waiver is intended to encourage him to continue delivering quality governance to the people of the state.
