Former Borno State Governor and ex‑national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has stated that former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi will not remain loyal to any political party that does not grant him a presidential ticket.
Sheriff’s Prediction on Obi’s Party Movements
Sheriff explained that Obi’s frequent shifts between political platforms are a calculated strategy aimed at securing a presidential candidacy whenever elections approach. He noted that he had already forecast this pattern during a previous television appearance and expects Obi to continue changing parties whenever his goal is blocked within a given platform.
Leadership Must Prioritise National Unity
The former governor criticised Obi’s approach, arguing that anyone aspiring to govern Nigeria must place the nation’s interests above regional or sectional considerations. He emphasized that national leadership demands commitment to the country’s unity rather than allegiance to a particular part of Nigeria.
“People like [Obi] will never stay in one political party because he’s pursuing an agenda. If he cannot be a presidential candidate, he will move out. I told you this before.
If you really wanted to succeed in Nigeria today, you don’t pursue an agenda of one section of a country.
If I, as a Bornu indigene, will come out here and say that no, I only believe in Borno state, not in Nigeria, then I’m not fit to be a Nigerian, because this country our leaders have fought and we stood by them.”
