Akpabio Mocks PDP, Urges Wike to Let Party Fade Away
During the inauguration of the full‑scope development of Akinwumi Ajibola Street in Abuja’s Gaduwa district, Senate President Godswill Akpabio made a light‑hearted remark about the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He said he was unaware the party still existed.
While speaking, Akpabio almost referred to the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) when he intended to acknowledge members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) NWC who were present at the event. Realising the slip, he quickly corrected himself.
Following the near‑gaffe, Akpabio turned to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and said, “Wike, stop confusing us. If a party has died, allow it to die.” He added that he did not know the PDP was still in operation.
The Senate President also took the opportunity to praise Wike’s work in the Federal Capital Territory, stating that under the minister’s leadership the FCT now functions like a full state, complete with an active Head of Service, numerous parastatals, permanent secretaries, coordinators of satellite town development, and other governmental agencies.
