ADC Spokesman Labels Nigerian Presidency a ‘Den of Corruption’
The National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolaji Abdullahi, said the controversy surrounding the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) has damaged the image of President Bola Tinubu’s administration and embarrassed Nigerians.
Speaking on Symfoni TV, Abdullahi described the situation as an embarrassment to the nation and its international reputation, stating that the impression created is that the Nigerian Presidency is a den of corruption.
He noted widespread whispers of money being exchanged for government contracts, appointments, and access to senior officials, adding that such claims had previously been dismissed as unfounded.
Abdullahi, a former minister, explained that his earlier experience in government made it hard to believe allegations of widespread racketeering, but the PFIPC case has led many to suspect similar conduct may have been occurring unseen.
He asserted that the alleged misconduct has been “business as usual” under Tinubu, with the current scandal merely the one that has surfaced.
Abdullahi insisted that President Tinubu must ensure a thorough, transparent investigation to demonstrate that his administration is not complicit in the alleged corruption.
The ADC spokesman also criticised Tinubu’s public expression of confidence in Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, arguing that such remarks could be perceived as an attempt to shield the Chief of Staff from scrutiny.
Abdullahi urged Gbajabiamila to proceed on leave so an independent panel can investigate without interference or the appearance of influence, offering that stepping aside would give the Chief of Staff a chance to clear his name.
He concluded that only an open, credible investigation can restore public confidence and address the questions raised by the PFIPC controversy.
