ADC Chieftain Kenneth Okonkwo Accuses APC of Using Abia Governor Otti to Stifle Opposition
Kenneth Okonkwo, a senior member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), voiced his concerns on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, alleging that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has levied prohibitive costs for campaign billboards in Abia State—₦200 million for a presidential candidate and ₦150 million for a governorship aspirant.
He argued that multiplying these fees across Nigeria’s 36 states and the FCT reveals a deliberate scheme to choke opposition voices, describing the APC as a threat to democracy. Okonkwo expressed surprise that Governor Alex Otti would acquiesce to such demands, asserting that the ruling party is using the governor to undermine rival parties’ ability to advertise their platforms.
He concluded that the situation is regrettable and calls for urgent review of campaign financing regulations to ensure a level playing field for all political actors.
