ADC Chieftain Blames APC for Exorbitant Billboard Fees in Abia
A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kenneth Okonkwo, has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of leveraging Abia State Governor Alex Otti to impede opposition political activities.
Speaking on Channels Television’s “Sunrise Daily,” Okonkwo stated that the APC has made it virtually impossible for opposition parties to thrive by imposing steep costs on campaign billboards.
He noted that a presidential candidate must pay ₦200 million to erect billboards, while governorship aspirants face a ₦150 million charge in Abia State.
“Multiply ₦200 million by the 36 states plus the Federal Capital Territory, and the scale of the problem becomes clear,” Okonkwo said. “This is merely an opportunity to advertise one’s vision, yet the APC has turned it into a scourge that threatens our democracy.”
Expressing his surprise, Okonkwo added, “I am shocked that Governor Otti would allow himself to be used in this manner. It appears the APC is employing him to make campaigning untenable for rival parties, which is deeply regrettable.”
