A woman has ignited online discussion after voicing her frustration about the challenge of keeping platonic friendships with men, free from sexual expectations.
In a widely shared clip, she lamented that several men terminate the friendship once she turns down their sexual overtures.
She explained that she attempted to build a sincere bond with a male acquaintance, yet the dynamic shifted when she declined to engage in sexual activity with him.
She noted that her desire was to stay friends without any physical intimacy, but she grew disheartened when it seemed the connection hinged on sex.
“I feel awful right now. I’m sad and upset because I met someone we got along well, and I did everything I could to avoid upsetting him.”
She further emphasized that she wished they could simply enjoy each other’s company as friends, sans any sexual involvement.
“Let’s stay happy and be friends without sex. The instant you decline to sleep with them, the friendship ends.”
She asserted that certain men cease all communication when their expectations aren’t fulfilled.
“They often tell me not to talk to them, they block me. I face this frequently, and it pains me that I can’t maintain a friendship without sleeping with the person.”
She wondered why some men find it hard to keep purely platonic friendships with women, noting that the experience has taken an emotional toll on her.
“Why does a man act this way? I anticipate criticism about my appearance, but all I ask is whether we can simply be friends without sex.”
She ended by questioning if her looks obligate every friendship to become intimate.
“Must I sleep with everyone? Do I even have the capacity to be with every person? It truly wounds me, it hurts deeply.”
