Wike’s Aide Demands Bode George Explain Source of Funds for Abuja Property
The Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, Lere Olayinka, has reiterated that former PDP Deputy National Chairman Bode George must clarify how the funds for his Abuja residence were obtained.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Olayinka said Minister Nyesom Wike’s assertion that the property was purchased with Rivers State money remains firm. He stressed that the controversy is not about who sold the house or which agent facilitated the transaction, but rather about the source of the finances used.
Olayinka accused George of lacking the moral authority to lecture Nigerians on corruption, urging him to exhibit the maturity and decorum expected of a former military governor of Ondo State who served nearly four decades ago.
He also challenged George to explain the PDP’s dismal electoral record in Lagos State during his tenure, noting that the party has failed to win a single polling unit there since 1999, while recording victories in other southwestern states such as Ogun, Ondo, Ekiti, Oyo and Osun.
Drawing on Yoruba tradition, Olayinka argued that respect for elders is conditional and hinges on the elder’s personal conduct. He claimed Bode George has repeatedly pledged to renounce his Nigerian citizenship or relocate abroad if President Bola Tinubu assumed office, yet has not honoured those promises.
Olayinka cited multiple occasions between 2015 and 2022 where George made such vows, including a March 2022 press briefing in which he declared he would “go to Ghana and be watching with binoculars from afar” should Tinubu win the presidency.
With more than three years of Tinubu’s presidency now elapsed, Olayinka questioned whether an elder who has failed to uphold his own declarations can still be regarded as honourable.
