Wike-led PDP faction selects Senator Sandy Onor as 2027 presidential candidate
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction associated with former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has announced Senator Sandy Onor, the former Cross River State gubernatorial aspirant, as its consensus presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
The declaration was made by Samuel Ortom, chairman of the PDP Presidential Primaries Collation Committee and former Benue State Governor, during the collation and presentation of the party’s presidential primary results at Wadata Plaza in Abuja on Tuesday.
Ortom explained that the decision emerged after extensive consultations and voice votes involving party members across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
He stated that the committee had engaged with stakeholders nationwide, reached a consensus, and then formally presented Senator Sandy Onor as the party’s chosen candidate for the 2027 election.
National Commissioners of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Abdullahi Zuru and Professor Rhoda Habor Gumus, together with other INEC officials, monitored the exercise at the PDP’s national secretariat.
Following the announcement, the PDP leadership handed Senator Sandy Onor a certificate of return and the party’s flag, confirming his status as the presidential candidate.
