Marriage ought not to be hurried, says Nigerian musician and actor Folarin Falana, widely recognized as Falz, who notes that individuals are generally more prepared for a lifelong union once they reach their thirties.
He emphasized that age by itself does not determine readiness; rather, the emotional growth and lived experience that typically accompany older age are crucial.
He pointed out that numerous individuals in their twenties are still exploring their identities, suggesting that this decade is ideal for self‑improvement rather than entering matrimony.
Resist External Pressure When Considering Marriage
Speaking on The BTS Reality podcast, Falz shared his thoughts on the societal pressure that pushes many young people toward early marriage.
He urged listeners to ignore pressure from family, friends, or the broader community and concentrate on establishing a solid base for their forthcoming life.
According to Falz, traits such as emotional intelligence, financial autonomy, and psychological preparedness improve with age and should outweigh arbitrary age milestones.
Instead of treating the twenties as a cut‑off point for wedlock, he portrayed the period as a chance to acquire wisdom, chase goals, learn from errors, and gain a clearer perspective on life before committing to a lasting partnership.
Falz advised, “Tying the knot in your thirties is optimal. Do not allow anyone to push you into marriage before thirty. By that age you have accumulated richer life experiences, whereas in your twenties you are still discovering who you are. Your twenties are meant for education, personal growth, and enjoyment. In your thirties you synthesize that knowledge and steer your life accordingly. Hence, waiting until your thirties to marry is preferable.”
