A Nigerian individual turned to social media to explain why he ended a friendship years ago after losing $10,000 in an investment. In a post on his X account (@only1kai), he recounted that the situation began almost three years earlier when he joined a cryptocurrency venture.

He Breaks His Silence
He explained that, just weeks after putting money into the scheme, the platform collapsed suddenly. He promptly notified law enforcement about the loss. “The site vanished with my funds. I filed a police report, believing the matter was resolved,” he said.
Investigation Findings
Authorities followed the trail to a cryptocurrency exchange and uncovered that his acquaintance was implicated. Although he managed to retrieve $6,000, he ignored his friend’s pleas for forgiveness.
Community Responses
Readers reacted strongly. Samuel Peter commented, “Before sending money to friends or family, I now request proof, verify independently, and treat emotions as unreliable evidence. This habit has protected me on multiple occasions.” Tete Bebe noted, “The financial loss stings, but the betrayal from someone you trusted cuts deeper.” Idara shared, “Three years ago I lost $12,000 in the same manner. Police came up empty. You’re fortunate to have recovered $6,000; commendable for ending the friendship.” Mosvilla added, “An honest mistake can be forgiven; a deliberate betrayal is far harder to overcome.”
