A woman has ignited online discussion after suggesting that individuals should avoid marrying someone they have dated for an extended period, claiming that lengthy romances can diminish the excitement and mutual respect essential for a thriving marriage.
In a widely shared video on social platforms, she explained that she would not advise marrying a longtime boyfriend or girlfriend when deciding to settle down.
She stated, “When you are ready to marry, I would not recommend choosing the person you have been in a relationship with as your spouse, honestly speaking.”
Long-Term Romance May Undermine Marital Success
She argued that couples who spend many years together often grow overly familiar, which can erode the respect and enthusiasm that could otherwise strengthen their union.
According to her, partners may have already endured arguments, disappointments, and unhealthy patterns before ever walking down the aisle.
She added, “There is no respect left; you have spoken to each other in any way you pleased, and you have witnessed each other’s shortcomings.”
The speaker also noted that some duos have essentially experienced nearly every life stage together prior to formal marriage.
She remarked, “You have seen each other joyful and sorrowful; some have even become physically aggressive, and you have engaged in extreme behaviors.”
She then questioned what novelty could remain after such familiarity, asking, “What could possibly stay exciting in the marriage after all that?”
