Tyson Fury remained on track for a long‑awaited all‑British showdown with Anthony Joshua after halting Mariusz Wach in a low‑profile heavyweight contest held at the Max Muay Thai Stadium in Pattaya on Friday, July 24.
The 37‑year‑old British champion dictated the pace from the opening bell, overwhelming the 46‑year‑old Polish challenger. Wach was unable to answer the bell for the eighth round, handing Fury his 36th professional win.
The victory keeps alive the prospect of a blockbuster meeting with Joshua, who is set to face Albanian heavyweight Kristian Prenga in a comeback bout in Saudi Arabia later tonight, July 25.
After the fight, Fury remarked, “I went through my test tonight. Let’s see if he can get through his.” He dismissed speculation that he would travel straight to Jeddah to announce a potential Joshua showdown, stating instead that he would head home.
“I’ve got to face off with my wife. I’ve got to iron when I get home. I’ve been away for six out of the last seven months,” Fury added. “I’m not going to Jeddah, I’m going home to my wife and kids. I’m going to regroup, and hopefully we’ll have a big fight signed next week.”
Uncertainty still surrounds the venue for a possible Fury‑Joshua clash. Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn has noted that the former world champion’s contract stipulates the bout must take place in the United Kingdom, although rumors continue to link the fight to venues in the United States.
Fury remained non‑committal about the location, saying, “We’ll head wherever we’re going to head. Who knows? It could be in Vegas, New York, Ireland, London. Who knows where the fight’s going to be?”
