In a Tuesday post on his official platform, Troost-Ekong dismissed media reports. These suggested players sought extra payments before the 2026 FIFA World Cup African playoffs. He emphasized:
“Once resolution is found we will confirm. Any claims about demands beyond rightful payments are false. We simply want to focus on upcoming matches.”

The captain’s clarification follows a training standoff in Morocco. Players and officials skipped Tuesday’s session. This protested outstanding payments for recent achievements.
