Tonto Dikeh Warns Christian Men Against Using Spirituality to Mask Laziness in Courtship
Nollywood actress and evangelist Tonto Dikeh has called out Christian men who use phrases like “God told me” to avoid putting real effort into courting Christian women. She says this approach masks emotional laziness and distorts the true character of God.
The mother of one explained that some brothers adopt a “low‑effort” mindset during courtship, believing that spiritual declarations alone are enough to win a sister’s heart. Dikeh insists that such shortcuts are not acceptable.
Why Spiritual Language Alone Isn’t Enough
She warned that saying “God sent me to you” or “God told me you are my wife” should never replace intentional actions such as giving thoughtful gifts, spending quality time, and showing consistent care. According to Dikeh, relying on spiritual language to bypass practical effort is a misunderstanding of faith.
“This is a funny topic, but it’s one we actually need to discuss,” she said. If you are a brother in the Lord, step forward. Why do church brothers think church sisters don’t require gifts? What about this low‑effort thing you put into wooing or pursuing a woman? Church brothers would say, ‘God sent me to you,’ and blah, blah. God can send you, but using spiritual language to mask emotional laziness is a distortion of God’s character. Saying, ‘God told me you are my wife,’ is not an excuse to bypass intentionality and practical effort,” she concluded.
