Taraba NDC Governorship Aspirant Philip Johnson Resigns, Alleges Primary Election Manipulation
Philip Johnson, a former governorship aspirant of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) in Taraba State, has announced his resignation from the party. In his resignation letter addressed to the Taraba State Chairman, he alleged that the party leadership manipulated the governorship primary election despite his clear victory.
Johnson stated that the primary was conducted peacefully across the 16 local government areas and that the collated results showed him as the winner. He claimed that the congress panel later announced the final outcome would be declared in Abuja, following instructions from the party’s National Secretariat.
He further alleged that the results were subsequently altered in favour of another contestant, whom he insisted he had defeated during the primary. Johnson accused the NDC of departing from its professed principles of fairness, justice and internal democracy, describing the turn of events as regrettable for a party that promised progressive change.
