A Nigerian commentator has responded to the backlash faced by content creator Peller after announcing his marriage at a young age.
The commentator, known on Facebook as Edo Baba, expressed his view while standing up for the creator against age‑related criticism.
Marriage at 21 Is Not Unusual
Edo Baba asserted that tying the knot at 21 should not be seen as odd or premature.
He explained that individuals postpone marriage for various reasons, and historically, unions at a younger age were far more common.
Looking Back at Earlier Generations
To illustrate his point, he cited examples from the 1940s and 1950s, noting that many people entered marriage in their late teens or early twenties during those decades.
He also drew on personal family history and the experience of veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie to reinforce his argument.
He wrote, “My father welcomed his first child at 25, while Pete Edochie became a father at 23.”
Urging Support Rather Than Criticism
The Facebook user called on the public to cease negative commentary and instead offer encouragement as the couple embark on their married life.
He warned that disparaging remarks only add unnecessary stress to the relationship.
He continued, “At 21, Peller isn’t too young to marry. The two main reasons people delay marriage are poverty and selfishness. In the 1940s and 1950s, couples often wed in their late teens or early twenties. My dad had his first child at 25 and Pete Edochie at 23. We should give the young pair some leeway. Negative talk about their union brings bad energy.”
