Super Eagles reach Unity Cup final after 2-0 win over Zimbabwe
The Super Eagles of Nigeria advanced to the final of the 2026 Unity Cup after defeating Zimbabwe 2-0 in a match played at The Valley in London on May 26.
Debutant forward Femi Azeez stole the show, scoring both goals on his first appearance for the national team.
Just five minutes into the game, Azeez found space inside the box and calmly finished to give Nigeria an early lead.
Zimbabwe struggled to match Nigeria’s pace and possession, while the Super Eagles continued to dominate and create chances throughout the first half.
By halftime, Nigeria remained firmly in control, with Zimbabwe offering little threat going forward.
The second half followed the same pattern, with Nigeria dictating the tempo and keeping their opponents pinned back.
In the 62nd minute, a swift attacking move involving Terem Moffi set up Azeez for his second goal, sealing the victory.
The coach introduced Tosin Oyedokun and Owen Oseni in the closing minutes as Nigeria comfortably saw out the result.
The win sends the Super Eagles into the Unity Cup final, where they will face either Jamaica or India, while the losing semi‑finalists will contest the third‑place playoff on Saturday.
Historically, Nigeria had never lost to Zimbabwe in seven previous encounters, recording four wins and three draws before this match.
