Super Eagles Defender Benjamin Tanimu Signs Two‑Year Deal with Singida Black Stars
Former Bendel Insurance defender Benjamin Tanimu has completed a two‑year move to Tanzanian Premier League club Singida Black Stars.
Tanimu came through the Bendel Insurance academy before gaining experience abroad with English side Crawley Town and Moroccan outfit Maghreb de Fès.
The defender is expected to bring his leadership, defensive strength and international exposure to Singida Black Stars as they prepare for the upcoming season.
Reacting to the transfer, Philip Shaibu, Director‑General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute for Sports, said he is confident Tanimu will thrive in Tanzania.
Shaibu described the player as hardworking, disciplined and committed to continual improvement, recalling his early days in the Bendel Insurance system during Shaibu’s time as Deputy Governor of Edo State.
He added that watching Tanimu grow from a promising youngster to a Super Eagles defender has been a source of pride and proof that investing in grassroots sports yields athletes capable of competing at the highest level.
Shaibu reiterated his commitment to youth development through sport, noting that football and other activities can empower young Nigerians from all backgrounds.
Tanimu’s journey from the Bendel Insurance setup to professional football abroad serves as an inspiration to many aspiring footballers in Edo State and beyond, highlighting the value of dedication and hard work.
Shaibu wished Tanimu success in his new chapter with Singida Black Stars and expressed optimism that the defender will continue to make Nigeria proud.
The former Bendel Insurance player will now aim to establish himself in the Tanzanian Premier League, using his experience from Nigeria, England and Morocco to help his new club achieve its objectives.
