Mukhtar Shagari, former Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, has shed light on Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s recent decision. Shagari confirmed that the Rivers State Governor voluntarily opted out of the 2027 political process.
Speaking on Thursday during an interview on Arise TV, Shagari described Governor Fubara as a mature and well-educated leader. He stressed that Fubara possesses the democratic right to choose whether to participate in future electoral contests.
According to Shagari, Governor Fubara’s decision followed extensive consultations. He insisted that this personal political choice should be fully respected.
“He stated that the decision came after consultations,” Shagari noted. “He remains committed to his political affiliation. There has been no suggestion that anyone forced or influenced his choice.”
Shagari further added that the Rivers governor had not indicated any individual or group influenced his decision.
He affirmed that Fubara, like every Nigerian citizen, holds the democratic right to engage in politics or to abstain from the process entirely.
“Governor Fubara is a mature and well-educated leader,” Shagari reiterated. “Like every Nigerian, he has the right to participate in the democratic process or choose not to.”
“He has made his decision not to take part in the 2027 political process. That choice should certainly be respected.”
Shagari concluded, “Ultimately, it is a personal decision. It should be treated as such, without unnecessary speculation.”
