Rudeboy Says It’s Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy’s Turn to Lead Afrobeats Era
Nigerian singer Paul Okoye, better known as Rudeboy from the defunct P‑Square group, has praised his relationship with today’s Afrobeats frontrunners Wizkid, Davido and Burna Boy. He stressed that each musical generation gets its moment at the summit.
Speaking on Yanga FM, Rudeboy said he harbours no resentment toward the current crop of stars and urged fans to accept that no act can stay on top indefinitely.
He pointed out that it is now the turn of Wizkid, Davido and Burna Boy to steer the industry, just as P‑Square once enjoyed its own period of dominance.
Looking ahead, Rudeboy noted that after this generation fades, another set of artistes will rise to take the lead, describing the cycle as a natural part of the music business.
He added that while an artiste’s reign at the top is temporary, a lasting legacy can be built through achievements and contributions to the craft.
“I have a good relationship with Wizkid, Davido and Burna. It’s their turn to be top, our turn don pass. Nobody is going to be there forever. People should respect that. After that, there’s still going to be another set of people. You can’t be there forever, but you can still put your legacy,” he said.
Rudeboy also questioned why fans often argue over Afrobeats supremacy, reminding newcomers that pioneers like himself and his brother laid the foundation for today’s success.
