Rudeboy Addresses Afrobeats Generational Shift
Nigerian singer Paul Okoye, widely known as Rudeboy from the former P‑Square group, says he maintains a good relationship with today’s Afrobeats stars Wizkid, Davido and Burna Boy. He believes each generation gets its moment at the top, and it is now theirs to lead.
Speaking on Yanga FM, Rudeboy noted that fans should accept that no artist can stay on peak forever. He pointed out that after the current wave, another set of musicians will rise, continuing the natural cycle of the music industry.
He added that while permanence at the summit is impossible, every successful act can leave a lasting legacy through their achievements and contributions to music.
“I have a good relationship with Wizkid, Davido and Burna. It’s their turn to be top, our turn don pass. Nobody is going to be there forever. People should respect that. After that, there’s still going to be another people. You can’t be there forever, but you can still put your legacy,” he said.
Rudeboy also urged listeners not to argue over Afrobeats supremacy, reminding upcoming artists that the pioneers also made their mark.
