Rivers ADC Aligns with Wike-led Rainbow Coalition
A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State has declared its support for the Rainbow Coalition spearheaded by Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike. The announcement came after a meeting in Ikwerre Local Government Area, where party officials said they were acting on a directive from the ADC’s national leadership.
Samuel Chuku, the ADC Secretary for Ikwerre LGA, stated in a widely circulated video that the party’s members in the state had been instructed by Ibe Kachikwu to back the coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections. He emphasized that the faction remains the authentic leadership of ADC in Ikwerre LGA and will maintain this position until the Supreme Court resolves the ongoing leadership dispute within the party.
Chuku also called on loyalists of former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi to stop presenting themselves as executive members of the ADC, describing them as intruders seeking to benefit from efforts they did not contribute to. He reiterated that the faction will continue to cooperate with the Wike-led coalition while awaiting the court’s final decision on the party’s national leadership.
The Rivers ADC faction stressed that its stance will remain unchanged pending the Supreme Court’s verdict, affirming its commitment to work with the Rainbow Coalition as part of its electoral strategy for 2027.
