Rev. Obioha Warns of Election Crisis If Peter Obi Is Barred
Rev. Dr Okechukwu Christopher Obioha, leader of the Njiko Igbo Forum, said that denying former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi a place on the 2027 ballot could plunge Nigeria into a political crisis.
He made the remarks while reacting to a Federal High Court judgment in Lokoja that ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Justice Isah Dashen ruled that an earlier decision affecting the Peace Movement Party’s claim over the NDC logo influenced the outcome.
Speaking with Daily Post, Obioha lamented the declining public trust in the judiciary, citing inconsistent rulings.
He warned, “If Peter Obi is frustrated and kept off the ballot, there will be no election in 2027. That is not a threat; it will happen.”
Obioha added that many Nigerians are weary of the current political arrangement and urged stakeholders to ensure a fair contest.
