PRP Rejects FG’s State Police Push
The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has dismissed the Federal Government’s recent drive to create state police, describing the move as suspicious and urging that it be rejected outright.
While acknowledging the need for a thorough overhaul of Nigeria’s security architecture, the party said the present administration has failed to effectively manage existing security institutions.
The PRP argued that before any structural changes to policing are considered, the government must first demonstrate its ability to handle current security challenges and restore public confidence in law‑enforcement agencies.
Call for a Credible Election Threshold
The party contended that any decision on establishing state police should be deferred until after the next general election, which it views as a test of the nation’s democratic credibility.
According to the PRP, the forthcoming election must be crossed with credibility and popular acclaim before the country can responsibly address important issues such as the structure of state police.
Focus on Immediate Security Solutions
Instead of pursuing structural reforms, the PRP urged the Federal Government to concentrate on ending the prevailing insecurity and alleviating the “nightmare” faced by many Nigerians.
The party called on the administration to intensify efforts aimed at improving citizens’ safety and strengthening existing security institutions before contemplating any new policing model.
