Tinubu Holds Meeting with NDC Chieftains Rufai Hanga and Kabiru Gaya
President Bola Tinubu received two prominent figures from the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rufai Hanga and Kabiru Gaya, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Sunday.
The gathering comes amid reports that both politicians are preparing to formally leave the NDC and join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Hanga, a former senator, reportedly missed out on the Kano Central Senatorial ticket and the deputy governorship slot under the NDC. He is said to be departing the party after allegedly failing to secure any position from the NDC’s vice‑presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso.
Gaya, who contested the Kano South Senatorial seat on the NDC platform, also lost out after a consensus candidate emerged from Kwankwaso’s camp.
Earlier, the National Chairman of the APC, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, had already met with Hanga and Gaya, further fuelling speculation about their imminent switch.
Observers view the Sunday meeting with President Tinubu as another strong signal that the two Kano politicians are poised to announce their defection to the APC in the coming days.
Both Hanga and Gaya are expected to make their formal announcement of joining the APC next week.
