Introduction
Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, has accused opposition leaders Omoyele Sowore, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi of attacking the president not out of genuine concern but because they hope to take power from him in the 2027 election.
Accusations Against Sowore
Bwala claimed that Sowore creates a political party, appoints himself as national chairman, and secures a presidential ticket through adoption. He then hands the chairmanship back after elections, only to reclaim it ahead of the next contest. Bwala questioned whether such behaviour reflects democratic principles.
Accusations Against Peter Obi
The presidential aide also criticised Peter Obi for constantly shifting between parties in search of a guaranteed ticket, while subjecting his supporters to primaries that they inevitably lose. Bwala argued that the foot soldiers are denied the same advantage Obi enjoys through party adoption.
Accusations Against Atiku Abubakar
Regarding Atiku, Bwala said the former vice‑president believes he has the right to change parties to pursue his ambition, yet labels anyone who follows a similar path as lacking character or being a betrayer. He described this dynamic as a “classic case of slave and slave master.”
Tinubu’s Democratic Stance
Bwala defended President Tinubu, noting that despite being a sitting president who could have been adopted by consensus, the APC still held a primary when another party member expressed interest. He argued that this shows Tinubu’s commitment to democratic processes, contrasting it with the behaviour of his critics.
Lack of a Clear Alternative
The aide concluded that the opposition’s daily rhetoric consists of noise against the government without offering Nigerians a concrete alternative path. He warned that taking advantage of national misfortunes for political gain amounts to cheap talk.
