Peter Obi Clarifies: Not Desperate for Presidency, Focused on Nigeria’s Success
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate for the 2027 election, Peter Obi, has declared that he is not desperate to become the President of Nigeria.
According to Obi, his main goal is to see Nigeria function properly, and his interest in the presidency stems not from personal ambition but from a desire for the country to succeed.
“I’m not desperate to be Nigerian president. I’m desperate to see Nigeria work,” he said.
He added that he would back anyone capable of delivering good governance, stating, “If it’s working, I’ll support whatever makes it work.”
The former Anambra State Governor expressed sadness over Nigeria’s current direction, noting that each year more people fall into poverty and more children are out of school.
Obi’s vision remains to build “a Nigeria that is united and peaceful” where every citizen enjoys equal opportunity regardless of tribe or religion.
Meanwhile, former political adviser to ex‑President Olusegun Obasanjo, Akin Osuntokun, claimed in an Arise News interview that Obasanjo is the chief sponsor of the Obi/Kwankwaso ticket for the 2027 presidency.
