Peter Mbah Declared Sole APC Governorship Candidate for Enugu in 2027 Election
The Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, has emerged as the sole governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 election in the state.
Primary Election Conducted Across 260 Wards
The announcement came from a committee led by Danmalikin Hausa, who stated that Governor Mbah was affirmed by party members after a primary election held in all 260 wards of Enugu on Thursday.
Hausa disclosed that 397,370 accredited APC members participated in the exercise, which he described as peaceful, credible and free of rancour.
Commendations from Party Leadership
Announcing the result, Hausa commended the governor, party leaders, delegates and members of the APC in Enugu State for what he called a successful primary election. He said the exercise reflected the strength, unity and internal coordination of the party in the state.
According to him, the Enugu chapter of the APC had shown discipline, consensus‑building and commitment to internal democracy.
“Enugu State APC is a well‑coordinated chapter where internal democracy, consensus‑building, discipline, synergy and peace reign supreme.”
Hausa also praised President Bola Tinubu and the national leadership of the party led by Nentawe Yilwatda for providing exemplary leadership, noting that their guidance helped ensure peaceful and credible primaries across the states.
Governor Mbah’s Acceptance Speech
In his acceptance speech, Mbah thanked the Enugu State APC for affirming him as the party’s sole candidate for the 2027 governorship election. He described the endorsement as a defining moment for the party and its supporters, saying it represented unity, sacrifice and a shared vision for the future of the state.
The governor also commended Tinubu and the APC national leadership for promoting inclusion and unity within the party, adding that the event was not just a political gathering but a sign of a new direction for the party in Enugu State.
“What is happening here is more than a political gathering; it is the coming together of a common purpose and a collective force that is beginning to define a new future for us.”
Mbah said the endorsement reflected the progressive philosophy of the APC and the maturity of party members who, according to him, had chosen dialogue and cohesion over division.
He accepted the nomination with humility and gratitude, stating that he was fully aware of the expectations that came with the mandate and that his ambition was not driven by a sense of entitlement but by a desire to continue serving the people of the state.
“I humbly accept this nomination with full awareness of the expectations that come with it.”
The governor noted that the journey ahead would not be easy but said party members were prepared and determined to work together ahead of the 2027 election. He urged members of the APC in the state to remain united and committed to the task ahead, emphasizing that the strength of the party would depend on discipline, sacrifice and collective effort.
Record of Service and Future Outlook
Reflecting on the political journey of the last three years, Mbah said his administration had remained focused on transparency, accountability and service‑driven governance. He added that his government had continued to deliver on its campaign promises through policies and infrastructure projects across different sectors of the state.
The governor affirmed that his administration would sustain its development agenda and continue to pursue programmes that would improve the lives of residents. He said the affirmation by the APC had further strengthened his resolve to serve Enugu State with dedication, responsibility and a clear focus on development.
