PDP Faces Fresh Turmoil as Two Rival Candidates Claim Benue Governorship Ticket for 2027
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is experiencing a fresh wave of internal conflict after two rival factions presented competing Certificates of Return for the 2027 Benue State governorship election.
One faction, aligned with former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, held its ceremony at the PDP National Secretariat in Wadata Plaza, Abuja. The group’s candidate, Aondoakaa, was accompanied by his running mate, Oyije Ochaekiti Ogbenjuwa, and several prominent PDP leaders and stakeholders from Benue State.
In a parallel move, the Turaki‑led faction, headed by former Minister of Special Duties Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), convened at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja. There, they presented a Certificate of Return to Emmanuel Agbo, Director‑General of the PDP Governors’ Forum, after declaring him the winner of their governorship primary.
The dual presentations underscore the protracted leadership crisis that has split the PDP into rival camps, each asserting control over the party’s structures and decision‑making processes in Benue State.
