The senior pastor of Family Worship Centre, Sarah Omakwu, urged married partners to avoid concealing their assets from each other, emphasizing that both spouses ought to be fully informed about one another’s possessions.
During a recent sermon, she noted that many individuals think they are acting prudently by hiding money and property from their spouse, yet she cautioned that this approach could lead to complications should one partner pass away suddenly.
She explained that knowing each other’s holdings ensures that the surviving spouse is not left without resources after a loss.
“Some people keep their wealth a secret and think they are wise. Everything you have should be known by your wife, just as your husband should know what you have, so that if one of you dies, the other will have something to fall back on.”
She further warned that concealing bank accounts and other valuables from a partner may leave those funds unclaimed after death.
She added that openness about finances benefits couples during their lifetime and safeguards the family’s long‑term security.
“If nobody knows you have money in the bank and you die, the money may remain unclaimed, and the bank will continue to hold it until the rightful beneficiaries come forward to claim it,” she added.
