Oyo APC Supporters Reject Sharafadeen Alli, Demand Adelabu as 2027 Governorship Candidate
On Thursday, supporters of Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu continued their demonstration outside the Oyo State Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress, insisting that the party avoid imposing a governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 elections.
They warned that any attempt to force a candidate could erode internal democracy and deepen divisions within the party.
The protesters reiterated that Adelabu remains their preferred choice for the governorship ticket, quoting demonstrators who said, “It’s Bayo Adelabu we want as our candidate; we reject Sharafadeen Alli. It’s either Adelabu or we bid farewell to the 2027 elections.”
They called on party leaders to uphold fairness, equity and due process during the primary election preparations.
The demonstrators also questioned Senator Sharafadeen Alli’s governorship ambitions, urging him to clarify his political intentions amid reports linking him to a traditional royal stool pursuit.
According to the protesters, seeking a traditional title while contesting for the state’s highest political office is incompatible.
The protest persisted into another phase on Thursday, with supporters maintaining their demand that the APC leadership honor the wishes of Oyo State party members.
