Osun APC Calls for SSG Dismissal After Suspect Arrest
The Osun State All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council has urged Governor Ademola Adeleke to remove Secretary to the State Government Teslim Igbalaiye following the arrest of a wanted suspect at his residence.
Speaking to journalists in Osogbo on Thursday, Remi Omowaiye, head of media and publicity for the campaign council, accused the Adeleke administration of trying to interfere with the investigation.
Omowaiye said reports indicate the governor is seeking the release of individuals detained during the raid on the SSG’s home, warning that shielding suspects undermines the rule of law.
He urged residents to pressure Adeleke not to protect those alleged to have committed crimes, stressing that any obstruction would damage the criminal justice system.
“No government that truly wants peace and security should be seen blocking lawful investigations or shielding anyone from accountability,” Omowaiye stated. “If Governor Adeleke is not an accomplice to criminality, he must immediately sack Alhaji Teslim Igbalaiye, whose residence yielded the arrest of a wanted murderer yesterday.”
He added that the governor should set aside political pettiness, abandon his desperation for a second term, and fully cooperate with law enforcement so the investigation can proceed.
Omowaiye also praised the Osun State Police Command and the Inspector-General of Police Special Squad for their professionalism and commitment to fighting crime in the state.
In response, Jamiu Olawumi, Director of Strategic Communication for the Imole Campaign Council, dismissed the APC’s demand as politically motivated.
According to Punch, Olawumi described the allegations as an attempt to tarnish the SSG’s reputation, emphasizing that governance is about service and responsibility.
Olawumi remarked, “Governor Adeleke knows the quality of his Secretary to the State Government, a lawyer and a devoted son of Osogbo. These claims are baseless smears designed to undermine his standing.”
He added that the criticism originates from individuals who cannot match Igbalaiye’s record and political relevance, calling the complaints “wailings” from those unwilling to accept excellence in service delivery.
Recall that Igbalaiye was arrested by police on Wednesday after a raid on his Osogbo residence. He was released the following day, while investigations into the circumstances of the arrest continue.
